Welcome to my Entertainment Collection. Where Petoskey stones get a new, modern life… one rock at a time.
WHAT IS A PETOSKEY STONE ANYWAY?
IT IS A FOSSILIZED ANCIENT CORAL THAT LIVED APPROXIMATELY 400 MILLION YEARS AGO. DUE TO THE SHIFTING OF THE EARTH’S PLATES, THE CORAL THAT WAS ONCE COVERED IN SHALLOW WARM WATER GOT PUSHED UP TO THE 45TH PARALLEL. THIS CREATED DRY LAND FORMATIONS AND SCATTERED THESE FOSSILIZED BEAUTIES THROUGHOUT MICHIGAN. THEY LOOK LIKE ORDINARY LIMESTONE WHEN DRY, BUT WHEN WET, THEY REVEAL A MAGICAL AND DISTINCTIVE PATTERN OF DARK EYES AND WHITE LINES. THEY BECAME THE OFFICIAL STATE STONE OF MICHIGAN IN 1965.
KELLY LONG HAS HAD AN ARTIST’S SOUL ALL HER LIFE AND PERMANENTLY MOVING TO NORTHERN MICHIGAN HAS INSPIRED HER TO CREATE MOD FOSSIL. AS PETOSKEY STONES CONTINUE TO BE DELIVERED BY NATURE ONTO HER PROPERTY, SHE USES HER DESIGNER’S EYE TO SEE HOW SOMETHING MILLIONS OF YEARS OLD CAN BE TRANSFORMED INTO A NEW, MODERN LIFE OF FINE, FUNCTIONAL ART. KELLY FEELS THE EMOTION OF THE HISTORY IN EACH ROCK AND HER OWN MEMORIES OF HER NEWFOUND HOME IN SUTTONS BAY. SHE HOPES YOU DO AS WELL!
